The inevitable has happened with the GCMMF Board, owner of one of the best cooperative brands Amul passing no-confidence motion against its Chairman Vipul Chaudhary.
Reduced to friendless state in the Board earlier, it was a forgone conclusion that Vipul would fail to pass the test. Bur his removal would actually happen or not would be decided by the High Court which had earlier ordered inquiry into the allegations of corruption charges against him.
Gujarat High Court on Wednesday allowed the GCMMF Board to convene meeting or for that matter pass any resolution. But the implementation of the same would be possible after the HC’s signal.
On the first opportunity GCMMF Board met on Thursday and expressed its lack of confidence in the Chairman.
The fight between the incumbent Chairman and his Board members has worsened over the weeks. There are allegations against Vipul that he took Mehsana milk union in reverse gear with dwindling milk output and escalating cost. The farmers are said to have risen in revolt against him. Issue of cattle feed worth several crores donated to Maharashtra by Vipul Chaudhary without Board’s consent further complicated the matter.
But more than anything, Vipul’s attempt to cozy up with Congress with the help of Vaghela and Ahmad Patel angered the BJP dominated Board.
The relation got so acidic that even the apolitical post of MD was dragged into the controversy with Vipul camp charging the incumbent MD R S Sodhi of being illegally appointed.
