A major fire broke out on Thursday in a milk depot of the Tamilnadu Co-operative Milk Producers’ Federation Ltd at Sholinganallur, over 60 km from Chennai, but there were no causalities.
“Fire was reported at 3.45 am in Aavin milk depot.By 5 am, we had put out the fire. Since, there were many wastages like empty cartons and plastic covers, smoke is still coming out of the spot,” Divisional Fire Officer-Kancheepuram, Parthiban old.
Though the loss is expected to be over “some crores of rupees”, Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Co-operative Union has not given out an official figure, he said.
The reason for the fire is not known, sources said.
