Amul spares NCR from hike in milk price
Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) that markets its products under brand Amul, hiked its milk prices in Gujarat from Monday, sparking speculation of a similar increase in Delhi.
Consumers in Delhi and NCR will be spared from the milk price hike as dairy majors such as Mother Dairy, Amul and Paras have said they had no immediate plans in this regard.
Prices of Amul Gold, Shakti, and Tea special have risen by Rs 2 per litre from today in Gujarat, while Slim and Trim and Tazaa has been made costlier by Rs 1 per litre in
the state, GCMMF Managing Director R S Sodhi said.
In Mumbai the prices of Gold and Taaza were hiked by Rs 2 and Rs 1 respectively on July 10 itself, he added.
He, however, said there was no immediate plan to make milk costlier in Delhi and NCR.
Mother Dairy, which has largest distribution chain in Delhi and NCR, and VRS Foods Ltd which sells its products under Paras brand also ruled out any immediate push in the
milk prices in the country’s capital.
The three popular milk brands had raised prices of full cream, toned and double toned by Rs 2 per litre in Delhi in the month of May last.
“As of now there is no plan to raise milk prices in Delhi or elsewhere in the country,” a Mother Dairy spokesman said.
Narendra Nagar, Director (Operation) of Paras also ruled out raising milk prices in near future.
Sodhi said Amul was forced to raise its milk prices (in Gujarat and Mumbai) as procurement rates of milk has increased by 20 per cent due to hike in diesel prices and other factors. Labour cost has also gone up substantially now, he added.
Set up in 1960, Paras – with supply of over 3.5 lakh litres of milk daily- is ranked one of the highest milk producers in the country only next to Mother Dairy and Amul.
