RS Sodhi, MD of GCMMF the proud owner of one of the largest dairy cooperatives in the world has bagged award in the category of “Conscious Capitalist for the Year” by the Forbes India Leadership Awards 2015.
Dedicating the award to farmers Sodhi told Indian Cooperative” any recognition to Amul is in fact a recognition of the strength of farmers who could produce miracle if they unite productively.”
Sodhi said once again it has been proven that the cooperative movement is capable of outpacing the capitalist model and shining on its own.
Winners of the Forbes India Leadership Awards 2015 were felicitated at a sparkling event held in Mumbai.
Other winners included Samit Ghosh, MD and CEO of Ujjivan Financial Services CP Gurnani, MD and CEO of Tech Mahindra Arundhati Bhattacharya, chairman of State Bank of India; Uday Shankar, CEO of Star India RC Bhargava, chairman of Maruti Suzuki India Uday Kotak, executive vice chairman and MD of Kotak Mahindra Bank.
Forbes India Magazine has also featured a story on Amul titled “ Cow to consumer: Beyond profit for Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation. The story says ”Managed and run by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the Amul brand is owned by 18,536 village dairy cooperatives like the one in Sandesar and 3.6 million farmers from Gujarat.
GCMMF has established 9,000 Amul parlours (dedicated stores). GCMMF, which is headquartered in the nation’s milk city of Anand in Gujarat, had an annual turnover of Rs 20,733 crore in FY15, a remarkable 159 percent growth from just five years ago when it had clocked Rs 8,005 crore.
