The Society in its AGM included one controversial item in the Agenda as follows:-
12.To approve celebrations of Ganapati Festivals ,Navratri Festival, Janmashtami Festival, Christmas &Holi Festival by Managing Committee at Society cost. Total Budget Rs.2,25000.
My query is whether the Society is competent to organize such cultural programs as once passed by AGM it will cease to be a voluntary contribution
Secondly whether it will be in accordance with existing bylaws /Act/Rules. Further what is the remedy available to members who want these programs by voluntary contribution
Your response in the matter will be appreciated

This question is faced by almost all well-meaning members of most housing societies in Mumbai. My views are compulsory collection to pay for activities on Religious Days Like: Holi,Janmastami,Ganesh Jayanti, Hind New Year, Christian New Year (Eid no body celibates perhaps) is a breach of bye laws and it hurts the sentiments of minorities, their hard earned monies are spent on objects they do not believe in. You may have heard that in Mumbai every now and then there is a big hulla- gulla for a denial of flat on Rent to minorities- Religious Minority, Non-vegetarians, Singles etc., But the compulsory contribution to meet religious activities pass of almost quietly.
I am giving you details of two posts on the subject as under: I have argued a case against such contributions.
Compulsorily contribution towards cultural activities!
