I am an Associated member of a Co-operative Society since 1995. Due to recent Constitutional amendment, can I contest the election of managing committee. Let me have a SCEA circular dated 29.11.2014 on the issue of associated membership please.

Rights of Associate Member as conferred by main member including contesting Committee seat, depends on bye law provision. This is because Section 24(2) of MCS Act 1960 provides that “an associate member, may, subject to the provisions of sub-section (8) of section 27, have such privileges and rights and be subject to such liabilities of a member, as may be specified in the by-laws of the society.
97CAA has not changed the position.
