Greetings, was going through your site with interest
I have ground floor flat in Pune in a registered cooperative housing society. Recently the common drainage line coming from the upper floors through our flat got broken, as a result the drainage water entered my flat. Since we don’t stay much there the flat is generally locked.
Hence over time ( maybe 1-2 months) this drainage water rotted the mattresses on the floor, caused damage to wooden furniture / doors among others.
Please guide who is responsible for these costs? the byelaws clearly mention that society is responsible only to repair external drainage lines.

DRAINAGE LINE is common asset of CHS. Bye Law No 160 (Model 2009) has a clause which covers repair to drainage pipe lines namely:
“(xiv) all leakages of water,including leakage due to rain water and leakages due to external common pipe line and drainage lines”
