That a total number of 142 women co-operative societies have been formed in the state of Tripura was informed by the Co-operative Department under the Tripura government, reports The Sentinel. Earlier, this number was 130.
According to survey done by the state the number of co-ops in the state is on the rise and was 1750 in 2013. 8.32 lakhs are the number of members associated with these societies.
Women play an important role in promoting growth through co-ops across the villages in the state, admitted the state govt.
The state co-op department has laid stress in the growth of the backward classes and tribal through co-op movement. It has been seen that most of the Women Cooperatives in India have proven very successful, despite facing cutthroat competition in the market.
