The Calcutta High Court has directed the West Bengal government to file a report on the number of FIRs lodged against the manager of an agricultural cooperative bank in Murshidabad accused of defrauding depositors.
The case involves allegations that the manager failed to return maturity amounts to depositors despite funds being collected and deposited by agents. The petitioner (manager) sought anticipatory bail, claiming all maturity payments had been made.
However, the complainant alleged a total of Rs 1.26 crore was collected but not disbursed upon maturity. The court asked the state to clarify whether further complaints exist and directed the Deputy Solicitor General to determine the extent of default and the available corpus.
