Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take off the recently introduced restrictive clauses for the handloom weavers’ cooperative societies eligible for availing marketing incentives under National Handloom Development Programme.
The chief minister has dashed off a letter to the prime minister on the issue. It is notable that the new scheme launched by the union ministry of textiles allows the societies to avail incentives for a maximum of three years and a turnover not exceeding Rs 30 lakh.
The chief minister’s letter added the two restrictive clauses will not only cause migration of weavers seeking other sources of employment but also piling up of handloom goods and loss of working capital.
