The Gujarat High Court has quashed an order of the Registrar of Cooperatives barring former chairman of Mehsana milk producing cooperative federation aka Dudhsagar Dairy Vipul Chaudhary from contesting elections in cooperatives for three years.
The HC said the Registrar’s order, passed under Gujarat Cooperative Society Act, removing Chaudhary and prohibiting him from contesting election for three years, was illegal.
Chaudhary’s lawyer had argued that the Registrar could not pass order to bar his client from contesting elections, as the sections mentioned in the order only spoke about ouster from MMPCF.
Early this year, the cooperative registrar had issued notice to Chaudhary seeking an explanation on the allegations of irregularities in MMPCF. There were allegations that he had supplied cattle feed to Maharashtra causing a loss of crores of rupees to the Dairy.
It is worth mentioning that In 2013, Chaudhary had been ousted from the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), after a no-confidence motion was passed against him for his alleged irregular transactions.
