Widespread clashes erupted in Raiganj on Saturday, with rampant firing and bombing, as alleged Trinamool activists “worked towards winning” the Raiganj Central Cooperative Bank election, reports Times of India.
Two persons were shot at and three others severely wounded, allegedly at the hands of Trinamool goons. Party leaders, however, denied the charge. The police subsequently had to fire rubber bullets and resort to lathicharge to rein in the rampaging mob.
MLAs as well as the inspector-in-charge (IC) of the Raiganj police station were also injured in the clash, the latter being treated at hospitalized.
The Raiganj Central Cooperative Bank’s board of nine directors was, so far, controlled by the Left Front but this time, the Trinamool had aimed for it, fielding their candidates.
