Tribune reports the Punjab Government has finally asked the vigilance bureau to probe into the multi-crore cooperative bank fraud in Tariska in the Amritsar region of the state.
Since the Amtritsar rural police could not carry out investigation given they were subject to pressure from the local politicians, a fresh probe by the vigilance bureau had become unavoidable.
Earlier, as ordered by cooperation minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa the vigilance bureau had conducted only a simple enquiry into the scam.
Investigation has revealed that several functionaries including deputy registrars, assistant registrars and inspectors of cooperative societies have been involved in the scam.
