Former Irrigation Minister in the Samajwadi Party government and Uttar Pradesh based Pradeshik Cooperative Federation’s Ex Chairman Achal Singh passed away at his residence at Civil Lines in Fatehpur due to cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning. He was 65 years old.
Singh had a long career in the cooperative movement of the state. In 1993-94 he was the president of District Cooperative Bank. In 1995-2000, after joining the BJP he became the Chairman of PCF. Later on, he joined Samajwadi Party and contested the election of Lok Sabha in 2004-2005.
Singh also served on the board of IFFCO. He was considered a stalwart of the cooperative movement. Co-operators have mourned the sudden death of Singh.
IFFCO MD tweet on his demise read, “Saddened to hear about the sad demise of senior cooperator and former #IFFCO director Sh. Achal Singh Ji. His contribution for the growth & development of cooperatives and agriculture was laudable. May god rest his soul in peace. Om Shanti.”
