Media reports say people of the village of Bhingrada in Champawat District in Uttarakhand held a protest demanding the opening of a branch of Pithoragarh District Cooperative Bank in their area. The villagers highlighted various problems they have to face due to the lack of banking services.
The villagers say Pithoragarh District Cooperative Bank has eight branches in Champawat district but it has no branch in Ladhiya Ghati. This puts them to inconveniences. They threatened if their demand is not met they would be forced to intensify their protest.
Ladhiya Ghati has a substantial population but the area is not adequately-banked, the villagers complained.
