In a significant move to strengthen youth involvement in the cooperative movement, Manish Sanghani, Chairman of the Amreli (Gujarat) District Cooperative Union and an active member of the NCUI Youth Committee, has played a key role in the formation of two campus-based student cooperatives in Amreli, Gujarat.
This initiative aligns seamlessly with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of Cooperation to make the cooperative sector more inclusive and vibrant.
Under his leadership, two student cooperatives have been successfully registered: Shri V.D. Kanakiya Arts and M.R. Sanghvi Commerce College Students’ Savings and Consumer Cooperative Society Ltd. and Shri Kamani Science and Prataprai Arts College Students’ Savings and Consumer Cooperative Society Ltd.
These societies have already generated substantial interest and participation, with more than 50 student members in each—a key requirement for legal registration under Gujarat Cooperative Society norms.
In addition to groundwork, Sanghani organized several seminars and awareness sessions across colleges in Amreli to promote understanding of the cooperative model among students and educators. These sessions helped demystify the concept of cooperatives and sparked a wave of enthusiasm and participation, empowering students with tools for financial literacy and self-governance.
The cooperatives are now functioning as vibrant platforms where students are encouraged to practice thrift, access affordable stationery and educational resources, and develop skills in cooperative management, entrepreneurship, and democratic decision-making.
Through hands-on experience, students are being groomed as future cooperative leaders committed to the values of equity, responsibility, and teamwork.
The successful inauguration of these cooperatives—graced by the Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat—is a testament to Sanghani’s strategic leadership and unwavering dedication.
His model for forming campus cooperatives is already being seen as a replicable blueprint for other districts and states aiming to foster youth leadership in the cooperative sector.
