While replying to a query raised by Lok Sabha Member Mohanbhai Kundariya, Union Minister for fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala said, “There are 20 state and district level defunct cooperative milk federations and unions in the country”.
“Based on the information provided by the National Dairy Development Board, there are 281 Milk Unions/Marketing or Metro Dairies/State Federation or Apex Bodies in the country, of which 20 Milk Federations/ Unions are currently defunct/non-functional”, he added.
Rupala further added, “Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Government of India is implementing schemes primarily focusing on development of the cooperative dairy sector including cooperative milk federations and unions”.
“These schemes/projects of DAHD are oriented towards supporting these cooperatives with working capital, strengthening of milk chilling and processing capacities etc”, his reply reads.
