The employees of Sahakara Sarige (Transport Cooperative Society) have gone on a strike stopping all their services in Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, and Udupi districts. The cooperative body reeling from huge financial losses is demanding a bailout from the state government, reports Hindu.
There are reports that several important people including cooperative officials and local MLAs are in touch with protesters trying to end their strike. The society began in 1991 and it runs buses on 76 routes.
President of the co-op society said the government should treat the cooperative on a par with KSRTC and BMTC and help it financially to carry out its obligations including giving student passes gratis.
