The Madurai bench of the Madras high court has ordered status quo on the elections to the co-operative societies and sought a report from the Tamil Nadu State Co-operative Societies Election Commission on the nominations received, nominations rejected and reasons for rejecting nominations, reports TOI.
It bears recall that the Tamil Nadu State Co-operatives Election Commission is holding elections to the 18,775 societies which includes 18,435 PACS. It would be a four-phase election to the primary cooperative societies.
Challenging elections, several petitions were filed before the high court bench. One of the petitions was filed by DMK MLA R Sakkarapani alleged that the commission had not conducted any election but made selection only.
Petitioners alleged that in the co-operative societies election commission had failed to follow due procedure in holding the polls.
