Tamil Nadu All Cooperative Bank Employees Association (TACBEA) held a protest demonstration in front of the district collectorate and demanded the introduction of pension scheme for the employees and grace pension for the retired employees in the state, reports Hindu.
The district president of the association said the employees in the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Societies (PAACS) and fair price shops have been fighting for the demands for nearly seven years and they were let down by the DMK and the AIADMK governments.
It bears mention that the previous AIADMK government had constituted a committee to consider their demands, but it never submitted the report. Following strong protests when the committee did submit the report, no concrete action was taken.
At the end of the protest, several office bearers of the association presented petition to the Collector to be forwarded to the Chief Minister. The protesters warned if their demands were not met they, they would go on strike in the next month.
About 450 employees in the 131 PAACS and 150 employees in the fair price shops in the district would join the strike, the association claimed.
