As part of election preparations for over 23,000 cooperative societies in Tamil Nadu, 63.23 lakh ineligible members, allegedly enrolled during the previous AIADMK regime, have been removed from voter lists, media reports say.
Cooperative societies have 2.20 crore members. These elections are politically significant, with 2.2 lakh office-bearers to be elected.
The ineligible members were removed due to reasons like duplicate names, non-renewed memberships, and loan defaults.
