A co-op election in a PACS of Nandigram, the stronghold of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari led not only to violent clashes among BJP and TMC supporters but also a massive defeat for BJP candidates last week.
TMC won the election with candidates supported by the party retaining all the 12 seats in Bhekutia Agriculture Cooperative Societies election with Adhikari’s candidates drawing a big blank.
Talking to Indian Cooperative, one of the TMC MLAs and NCUI GC member Swarna Kamal Shah said, “Though, I don’t have the enough details but it is being said that several BJP supporters switched sides and joined TMC, leading to such a result.”
Several people from both sides— TMC and BJP were injured during the elections.
