According to Telangana Today reports, the Telangana govt. will take steps to strengthen fishermen co-operative societies in the state.
Sources say, a three-month-long membership drive will be started to enrol 1.3 lakh younger fishermen from various communities in the state.
The govt sees it as part of its efforts to make the rural economy stronger.
The number of fishermen co-operative societies in Telangana increased from 3,200 in 2014-15 to 5,200 in 2022-23 with membership increasing from 2.2 lakh to 3.57 lakh respectively.
