Sugar mills sealed for non-payment to farmers in Karnataka

A news outlet says a team of officials led by Sindagi Tahsildar sealed Manali Sugars at Malghan and KPR Sugar Mills at Almel in Karnataka for non-payment of dues to sugar cane growers of the region.

Manali Sugars owes Rs 25.71 crore to farmers. Officials seized 1.42 lakh quintals of sugar worth Rs 28.77 crore stored in the factory godown. KPR Sugar Mills is yet to pay arrears of Rs 56.13 crore to the farmers. Officials have seized 3.08 lakh quintals of sugar stored in its godowns.

Sources say the raids and seizures of sugars were conducted at the directions issued by the Commissioner for cane development and the Director of sugar.

The Belagavi district administration, also seized sugar stocks of 14 factories. Sugar stocks of Doodha Ganga Cooperative Sugar Factory, Om Sugars in Chikkodi and Ghataprabha Cooperative Sugar Factory in Gokak have been seized.

According to officials sources, the officials have seized 1,71,012 quintals of sugar worth Rs 32.50 crore belonging Doodha Ganga Cooperative Sugar Factory and 43,933 quintals of sugar worth Rs 8.35 crore belonging to Om Sugars.
