HT quoted former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis saying Union cooperation minister Amit Shah assured that cooperative sugar mills in Maharashtra would not be harassed by the income tax for paying FRP exceeding the amount declared by the Central govt.
The former chief minister said cooperative sugar mills have been receiving I-T notices for paying higher FRP for over a decade.
BJP leaders have urged the cooperation minister to resolve the lingering problem for good. It bears recalling that the central govt. declares the FRP every year before the sugarcane crushing season begins.
