North Karnataka’s leading urban cooperative SUCO bank recently bestowed the Sukrata Agriculture Award on farmers who had excelled in an innovative farming.
The recipients were Dharmareddy and Ajiappa in the category of best agriculture technology and the category of best farmer respectively.
This awards consist of a cheque of Rs 1 lakh along with a memento and a certificate of appreciation. The award was constituted by the bank in 2014.
Earlier in the day, the bank had organized a marathon with a motto of sustainable agriculture at Sri Kanak Durgamma Temple, Ballari. About 700 people participated in the marathon.
The bank also honored ten journalists for their articles on agriculture with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each.
Every year the bank organizes the award function but due to a severe drought situation in the last two years, the function could not be held, one of the bank officials Venkatesh Rao informed this correspondent on the phone.
It bears recall that SUCO Souhardha Sahakari Bank is the fastest growing UCB in North Karnataka. It achieved a turnover of Rs 806 crore this fiscal and earned a profit of Rs 7.90 crore. It is also the first co-op bank in Karnataka which was registered under UPI Platform.
