Stop rigging of co-op elections in TN : CPI(M)

CPI (M) State secretary Mr G. Ramakrishnan has called upon Tamil Nadu State Cooperative Societies Election Commission (TNCEC) to conduct the elections due in May 2018, in a fair and transparent manner, reports Hindu.

Addressing a conference of cooperative societies and cooperative banks, he alleged that the 2013 elections had been rigged to favor the ruling party members.

The CPI [M] leader demanded provision of identity cards with photographs to each member and the finalization of the list of members at least half a year in advance.

There are around 24,000 cooperative societies of various kinds in Tamil Nadu with a membership of roughly three crore. The cooperatives in the state did not witness elections for decades before 2013 and even these elections were allegedly rigged.
