The Uttar Pradesh government will again help the sugar mills which could not get the soft loans provided earlier by the government to pay off the farmers’ dues. The govt will extend the same scheme by half a month that is till 28 February and thus give sugar mills another opportunity to avail the loan, reports a news outlet.
Sources say this is being seen as a move to put an end to the growing anger among cane growers who have yet to get their sugarcane dues.
It needs a mention that towards the close of the last year, under the scheme, the private sugar mills were given loans for the payment of balance cane dues through various banks including cooperative banks.
