Camel milk will soon start selling in powder form at a price of Rs 6 to 12 thousand a litre as some enthusiasts in Sirohi in Rajasthan have formed a cooperative for the purpose.
National Camel Research Institute will help and promote the cooperative especially by offering them technical knowledge and helping them how to preserve the camel milk for a long time.
The Sirohi Co-op claims that this is for the first time an effort has been made to produce camel milk in powder form at the cooperative level. There are some private companies in Gujarat that are making powder out of camel milk and selling it on the market. But this is the first effort made in the cooperative sector, it says.
For the time being, the Sirohi cooperative is collecting milk from across Rajasthan and sending it to a company in Gujarat for conversion into powder. At present, Rajasthan does not have the required technology.
As per an estimate, there are about 4 lakh female and male camels in the country.
Earlier, GCMMF MD R.S.Sodhi said Amul’s experiment with camel milk especially bars of camel milk have found favor with consumers across the country and camel milk products will soon be available with online retailers.
