Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is set to move a bill for passage in Parliament today on Wednesday to upgrade the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) into a full-fledged university named “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University.
The proposed university will be recognized as an institution of national importance and will focus on technical and management education in the cooperative sector, aligning with the government’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation).
The bill seeks to promote cooperative research and development, enhance the cooperative movement in India, and strengthen the sector through a network of institutions. It also proposes to integrate IRMA as one of the schools of the new university.
Union Minister of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar had earlier introduced the bill during the first half of the session. It includes provisions for regulations, statutes, and ordinances to ensure smooth governance and adherence to national educational standards.
