A panel -appointed by PMO has asked the govt to seek the help of co-operative societies to get rid of the problem of pollution arising out of stubble-burning, according to TOI.
The panel suggests that the govt should give 75% subsidies to co-op societies which can buy machines and give them to members for use on rent. The panel suggests “in-situ” processing of paddy stubble through equipment like Happy Seeder, Super SMS for combines, straw chopper/ shredder and mulchers.
It also suggests routing of DBT to those co-op societies which buy them. The hiring charges may be fixed by state govts, it recommends.
It bears recall that stubble burning causes smog in the national capital region (NCR) and Delhi proper in the month of October-November every year.
