In his presidential speech on the occasion of the 100th International Coop Day at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi on Monday, NCUI President Dileep Sanghani narrated a tale from his past detailing how a move by Shah catapulted him into the national co-operative scene.
“We two- I and Amit bhai were on the board of Gujarat State Co-op Bank and a situation arose when one of us could go to the board of apex body of co-op banks NAFSCOB”, recounted Sanghani.
While I expressed my desire to go to the NAFSCOB Board, Amit bhai also almost simultaneously expressed his wish to join the Nafscob board. I said “no issue” but next morning Amit bhai said that he went through such remorse that he could not sleep for the night.
Amit bhai forced me to agree and I was sent to the NAFSCOB Board, opening a new chapter for my cooperative career, remembered Sanghani.
Through NAFSCOB, he came in contact with other cooperators such as Bijender Singh and Chandra Pal Singh, who wanted him to join the board of Nafed. At Nafed Sanghani’s proximity to Modi proved very crucial and a revival package for the ailing co-op was finally worked out. The rest is history, as they say.
