Sahakar Bharati bid to energize SHGs in Punjab

A meeting was held in the Jandiala block of Amritsar district under the aegis of Sahakar Bharati in which around 35 participants attended the session. Sangeeta Tendulkar, National Coordinator of Women’s Cooperative for Sahakar Bharati, outlined the organization’s objectives and provided insights into employment-related programs.

The discussion primarily revolved around the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Jandiala, which, though established in large numbers, are not fully active. The meeting aimed to assess the special skills of the members and how these can be leveraged for productive work. Detailed conversations were held on the training requirements for SHGs, particularly in fields like sewing, pickle-making, and packaging of sweets.

Women participants expressed their need for proper training and marketing support. Shankar Datt Tiwari, Head of Sahakar Bharati’s Northern Region, assured the women that initiatives on training and marketing would commence soon. The women also expressed their agreement to work with Sahakar Bharati.

The meeting concluded with the collective belief that “Cooperation without values is meaningless, and progress without cooperation is impossible.”
