The Gujarat High Court has directed the Registrar of Co-operative Societies to file an affidavit addressing issues related to the Gujarat Co-operative Societies Act, 1961. The court is hearing a PIL concerning the implementation of the Act’s provisions, media reports say.
Key concerns include the enforcement of Section 76, which governs staff qualifications in co-operative societies, the constitution of the State Co-operative Council under Section 156, and the use of e-tendering for purchases by co-operative societies under Section 156A.
The matter is scheduled for further hearing on August 30, 2024.
