Justifying the price rise of Amul milk, the Managing Director of GCMMF R S Sodhi said the cost of cattle feed has gone up by 25 %, while the cost of green fodder has gone up by 20 to 25 %. We have no other way of compensating the member-farmers than raising the price, Sodhi added.
Amul has hiked the prices of milk by Rs 2 per litre with effect from March across the country.Earlier ,it had increased prices of dairy products including cheese, butter, ghee and other products.
Sodhi said GCMMF’s member dairy unions are paying anywhere between Rs 610 to Rs 635 per kg fat to their farmer members. “Since May 2014, prices of all dairy products except milk had remained stagnant.
In June 2016, Amul had last hiked milk prices by Rs 2 per litre across the country.
