There was no representation from the apex body NCUI in the Vamnicom Convocation held in Pune on Monday in which the Vice-President of the country Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu was the Chief Guest.
It was not so that there was no invite, confessed Chief Executive of NCUI N Satyanarayan to Indian Cooperative. “Yes I did receive phone calls also from the institute” said Satyanarayan.
But Satyanarayan was at a loss for words while explaining why NCUI missed it when besides the Vice-President, several top babus of the Ministry were also present.
There are several sympathizers of NCUI who felt that NCUI should have participated in the function simply because it was a high-voltage function being held in the co-op sector and NCUI being the apex body of the sector in the country should have attended it.
Not Vamnicom but the NCUI is going to lose, said many, by missing events like this. “The atmosphere also offered an informal setting where several important issues between the ministry and the NCUI could have been discussed, they felt.
It bears recall that since the ministry divested NCUI President from the Chairmanship of Vamnicom Board, the organization has been nursing a grudge. Even this time, the invitation kept lying on the President’s desk without any response.
While many feel that merit of ministry’s move to delink Vamnicom from NCUI is debatable, NCUI should take things in its stride instead of alienating itself further from the prestigious co-op institute.
