Nagaland residents are cautioned by RBI officials against a surge in fraudulent schemes, media reports say.
The scams, including fake lottery winnings and overseas university offers, are delivered via SMS and email. Perpetrators mimic RBI executives and websites to deceive victims into depositing money for processing fees and taxes.
Vulnerable individuals, particularly in remote areas, are targeted as ‘Mules’ for illegal transactions.
RBI emphasizes it does not endorse individual accounts or remittances violating FEMA, 1999. Vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activity are urged to combat financial fraud.
