Reacting to oversupply of milk and the consequent fall in purchase prices for milk farmers in some parts of the country, R.S.Sodhi MD GCMMF has called upon state governments to ramp up the buffer stock of milk powder to help milk producers.
As private dairies have reduced purchase prices, milk cooperatives are getting nearly 30 percent more milk than they normally get -this has meant cooperatives staring the challenge of too much milk in the face, Sodhi said.
It is worth mentioning that private dairies especially in Madhya Pradesh have lately effected drastic cuts in purchase prices for milk producers. As a result of it, farmers in Morena, Bhind and parts of Gwalior are angry and indulging in hostile action, reports Business Line. MP Kisan Sabha and some prominent farmer leaders have strongly denounced private dairies’ unreasonable decision.
