An alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 19 lakh in Agricultural co-operative societies at Jandiala and Kangniwal in Punjab has come to light.

Hindustan Times reports police have registered cases against secretaries of the societies involved in the swindle on the basis of an inquiry report submitted by inspector of the Phillaur circle of cooperative societies.

The inquiry report says Ranjeet Kumar of Patti Sanki village, secretary of the Jandiala Co-operative Agricultural Services Societies, had misappropriated Rs 9.49 lakh.

According to the report, Rs 9.5 lakh in the Kangniwal Co-operative Agricultural Services Societies was defrauded by the secretary.

As per the FIR, as many as 17 farmers had paid the debt installments amounting to Rs 9.5 lakh, but the amount was not deposited in the bank and allegedly used by the secretary for his personal use.

Meanwhile, both secretaries have lost their jobs in the wake of fraud but are yet to be arrested.
