Punjab: Co-ops fail to clear dues; forced to buy costlier DAP

Farmers in Tarn Taran district are facing difficulties in obtaining diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer, essential for wheat sowing, due to the collapse of 56 cooperative societies.

These societies failed to clear dues with Markfed, the main fertilizer supplier.

Consequently, farmers must buy DAP from private traders at inflated prices of Rs 1,700-Rs 2,000 per bag, instead of the MRP of Rs 1,350.
