The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Narayan Gowda faction) led a procession and staged a dharna protesting against the State government’s failure to prevent suicides among farmers, Hindu reports.
The protesters alleged that farmers were committing suicide owing to crop failure and their inability to suffer the harassment by bank officers and moneylenders.
The government should protect their interests by waiving loans from cooperative and nationalized banks and pay some substantial compensation to the affected farmers.
The govt should reach out to the farmers making them aware on how to face the worst situation with courage. The govt should declare Chitradurga district as drought affected and provide compensation, they urged.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
