Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu and IFFCO’s Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi would join as panellists with other International Cooperative leaders in a webinar scheduled today on Monday to deliberate on the theme “Engagement of Cooperatives in the G20”.
It bears recall that the International Cooperative Alliance and its members have been participating in the G20 Engagement Groups since 2014 and have brought to attention the role of cooperatives in addressing challenges facing small and medium businesses, employment, and education and inclusion of cooperative in policy papers providing recommendations to G20 governments.
The G20, an international economic forum, brings together leaders from across the world. Asia-Pacific is well represented in this forum, with seven members from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, and Saudi Arabia. The 2020 G20 Summit will be hosted by Saudi Arabia and 2022 by India.
The webinar on Engagement of Cooperatives in the G20 will provide the opportunity to hear experiences from ICA members who have participated in the G20 task force meetings and how cooperatives can play an active role. Suresh Prabhu will provide his views on how cooperatives can engage in the Summit being held in Asia, especially India in 2022.
Besides Prabhu and Awasthi, the list of speakers includes IFFCO’s Tarun Bhargava, Ms. Melina Morrison, Australia; Jean Louis Bancel, France. Balasubramanian Iyer, Regional Director, International Cooperative Alliance Asia-Pacific will moderate the discussion while Tarun Bharagava will act as the Coordinator as well.
