Free Press Journal reports Bombay High Court rejected a petition questioning the Maharashtra government’s decision to postpone the elections and to permit the present managing committees of all the cooperative bodies including district cooperative banks and sugar factories to function till fresh elections are held.
A plea had been filed by Arun Kulkarni, a member of Balgawade Vividh Karyakari Sahakari (Vikas) Seva Society, Sangli. Covid 19 was responsible for the postponement of the elections due in January 2020.
The petition argued the govt’s ordinance had allowed the existing committees to function only for six months. The court dismissed the plea saying Kulkarni had no locus standi in the matter.
