In acknowledgement of IFFCO MD Dr. U.S.Awasthi ‘s father-in -law Shrilal Shukla’s outstanding contributions to Hindi literature , Post office India has released a commemorative postage stamp on him. Shrilal Shukla decorated with Padma Bhushan had won the much coveted Sahitya Akademi Award for his well known novel Raag Darbari in 1969.
India Post, in fact released five commemorative postage stamps on eminent writers that included – Prof. Balwant Gargi, Bhisham Sahni, K.V. Puttappa, Pandit Shrilal Shukla and Krishan Chander.
For the last five years, IFFCO has been bestowing the Shrilal Shukhla Smriti Award on a renowned Hindi litterateur whose writings reflect struggles, challenges and wishes of agrarian India.
Dr U S Awasthi shared the news on social media and wrote “Glad to share that @PostOfficeIndia issued a commemorative postage stamp on PadmaBhushan Shrilal Shukla as an ambassador of hindi literature”.
Shri lal Shukhla was born in 1925 in Village in Ajrauli in Lucknow district of UP and graduated from Allahabad University. His first novel was “Sooni Ghaati ka Sooraj” published in 1957 and in 2008 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the President of India for his contributions to Indian literature and culture.
