Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held a meeting with senior ministers of his cabinet over the ongoing violence and the death of five farmers during the protests in Madhya Pradesh, reports Times Now.
Five people were killed and four others were injured after police who were unable to manage protesting farmers in Mandsaur opened fire at the crowd. However, district authorities have denied the involvement of cops, adding that it was “miscreants” who opened fire as the crowd went on a complete rampage.
The death of the farmers has triggered a massive row, with the Congress condemning the killing questioning the government’s policy on agriculture. The government, however, has hit back at the Congress, alleging that the Congress was politicizing the issue.
Protests have not been limited to Madhya Pradesh only as farmers in Maharashtra too have been staging protests for the past seven days demanding a loan waiver and higher minimum support prices.
Those present in the meeting included Radha Mohan Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj, among others.
