IANS reports the UP government has brought in a new wheat procurement policy permitting ‘unlimited’ purchase of the rabi crop from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1, 975 per quintal in 2021-22.
The step is being viewed as an attempt to mollify farmers who had misgivings about the government continuing with the MSP. Govt. sources say the wheat procurement would begin from April 1 till June 15.
The procurement would be carried out through 6, 000 centres, of which a maximum of 3, 500 would be those operated by the Pradeshik Cooperative Federation (PCF).
