Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C R Patil, held a key meeting with Gujarat’s milk cooperatives and dairies to boost Compressed Biogas (CBG) production by converting cattle dung and organic waste into sustainable energy and manure. Highlighting the economic and environmental benefits, Patil emphasized the dairy sector’s role in reducing carbon emissions, creating farmer revenue streams, and accessing carbon credits.
Gujarat, with a daily production of 2 lakh tons of cattle dung, can generate 4,000 tonnes of CBG, offering immense green energy potential. Key outcomes included plans to establish 20 CBG plants and 30,000 biogas units with Rs 1,000 crore investment. Discussions also covered funding, partnerships, and technical support under government schemes.
This initiative aligns with India’s energy self-reliance and climate goals, with stakeholders committing to sustainable development under the GOBARdhan initiative. Senior officials from various ministries participated in the discussions.
