Tamil Nadu vigilance and anti-Corruption police recently arrested president and superintendent of the Primary Agricultural Cooperative and Rural Development Bank in Polur in Tiruvannamalai.
They were accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a farmer to return his land documents he had mortgaged to avail a loan of Rs. 1.53 lakh, reports Times of India.
Police say the farmer had repaid around Rs 50,000 towards the principal and interest amount of the loan.
The farmer had approached the bank officials after received a letter informing that the government had waived the remaining loan amount Rs 1.28 lakh.
