The cooperative sector in Madhya Pradesh has been facing issues due to delayed elections, with some societies waiting for over a decade. In response, the state government plans to begin elections in May.
With around 55,000 cooperative societies, only 6,000 are active, including 10,000 dairy societies. Efforts are underway to increase active dairy societies to 9,000.
Additionally, 4,500 Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) have not held elections since 2018, and many are defunct.
The government is focused on revitalizing these bodies, which were once growing at 25% but now show only 8-10% growth, with elections as a key priority.
