Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (Omfed) has refused to procure milk from dairy farmers of Bargarh district in the state. Angered by the non-procurement of their milk , farmers spilled around 26,000 litres of milk worth Rs 6.76 lakh on the road in Bargarh town, reports Times of India.
Farmers complain that thousands of litres of their milk is being rejected by Omfed on various baseless pretexts including poor quality of milk.
A farmer leader is quoted as saying Omfed was earlier procuring around one lakh litres of milk from the district, but it has curtailed 30%of the procurement. Around 70,000 litres of milk are being procured from the district now.
